News Highlights Annual State of the City Address Tuesday, July 1, 2008   Mayor John Hickenlooper’s annual State of the City Address recognized Denver's 150th anniversary as he outlined 25 initiatives and priorities in the year to come. Denver's 150th Anniversary On November 22, 1858, Gen. William Larimer, a land speculator from eastern Kansas, placed cottonwood sticks on the hill overlooking the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek to stake a claim at the center of a square-mile town plat. Now, 150 years later, Denver is the 21st largest metropolitan area in the United States. The City and County of Denver is celebrating its sesquicentennial with a legacy project, the Denver Daisy; recognition of 150 people making Denver a better place; and a two-week celebration in November called 15 Days, 150 Years.  read more ... Denver Mayor’s Office Announce Neighborhood Conference: June 28, 2008 Denver Mayor’s Office Announce Neighborhood Conference: June 28, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 24, 2008 MEDIA CONTACT: Sue Cobb, 720-865-9016 Denver Mayor’s Office Announce Neighborhood Conference: June 28, 2008  (Denver) The Denver Mayor’s Office will host community organizations and local citizens in a day of communitywide networking and leadership presentations on Saturday, June 28, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. at Manual High School, 1700 E 28th Ave. The conference will be aimed at sustaining Denver Neighborhoods for now and in the future and will include community building presentations, workshops to address issues facing neighborhoods, discussions surrounding effective strategies to promote neighborhoods and opportunities for community-wide networking. The conference is aimed at promoting a shared vision for building stronger neighborhoods through collaboration among Denver’s diverse neighborhood and community groups.
