Videos to showcase unique people, places and events of the City

As part of the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs’ Doors Open Denver weekend events, Denver 8 TV has premiered a new series designed to showcase the places, events and people from
Denver’s 150-year history. The videos will provide a frame through which current residents can understand and connect to today’s city, as well as give context to current events and community development.
The first six 90-second programs are all related to the themes highlighted in the architectural nature of the Doors Open event. Topics include:
- “ There Goes the Neighborhood” – the first commercial building on East Colfax;
- “ The City Rises” – the post WWII building boom; and
- “ Skyline Urban Renewal” – both the aggressive demolition and the call for preservation.
- Also featured will be the role prominent people played and their landmarks, including Henry Lowenstein’s theaters, and Dana Crawford and the downtown jewel of Larimer Square.
Each program will play on Denver 8 TV, Denver’s fully-programmed municipal access channel on the Comcast cable system. As this sesquicentennial year proceeds, more Denver History Minutes will be added to the series.
Denver History Minutes are presented by Denver 8 TV in association with production partner Havey Productions. The series will be used annually as an informational mainstay on the City television channel.
“Denver History Minutes” premiered to the public all weekend as part of the 2008 Doors Open Denver open house held at Denver Union Station. A video reel with the new programs was shown continuously throughout the scheduled events on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13. Visitors viewed the brief programs at the historic train terminal, soon to be the hub of the Denver region's multi-modal transportation network.
